If dental fear and anxiety keep you from getting the treatments you need, we understand. The team at 4405 Dental Studio wants patients to have a positive experience each time they visit the dentist, whether they are having extensive dental work completed or just a simple cleaning and evaluation. Georgetown, TX area patients who are interested in an anxiety-free appointment are encouraged to work with a dentist who offers various levels of dental sedation during their treatments. Dr. Andrew Edmonds and his team encourage patients to ask about sedation dentistry options.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sometimes referred to as sleep dentistry, sedation dentistry focuses on ensuring patients are comfortable before and during their dental visit. This can reduce fear and anxiety that often causes patients to avoid visiting the dentist, even for routine procedures. Dr. Andrew Edmonds is pleased to offer the following methods of sedation in his facility:

  • Inhalation sedation – inhalation sedation, also known as nitrous oxide or laughing gas, allows patients to feel at ease when inhaling this gas through the nose. This odorless gas offers an increased sense of relaxation and is perfect for patients with mild anxieties or issues such as gag reflex. Patients can transport themselves home after inhalation sedation, as the dentist will administer oxygen before the patient leaves the office for the day.
  • Oral sedation – another option is oral sedation, sometimes referred to as oral conscious sedation. This method of sedation requires the patient to pick up a prescription medication that they take before arriving at the dental office. Patients find that this is a stronger sedative that still allows them to be awake and coherent for their visit.
  • IV sedation – the strongest method of sedation is IV sedation, where anesthesia is administered directly into the bloodstream for immediate and deep relaxation. Many patients fall asleep during their treatment under IV sedation and will need to arrange transportation to and from the dental office.
